Last Friday I attended the RBS Food and Drink Conference in Edinburgh, an all-day event focussed on one of Scotland’s core industry sectors. With representatives from entrepreneurial start-ups, seeking their first investors to more established SMEs, household names and global leaders, it was fantastic to hear about their organisations, how their businesses were facing the current market challenges and planning for the future.
This year’s Scottish Engineering awards dinner, celebrating their 150 year anniversary, was a genuinely stirring and thought provoking event.
It was kicked off in excellent, patriotic style by the award winning Scottish Power Pipe Band which served to focus the audience on the real significance of the event. Continue reading
With over 350 delegates in attendance, representing every aspect of Scottish Manufacturing from Food & Drink and Textiles to Chemicals and Electronics this truly was, as organisers SMAS had predicted, “the highest profile manufacturing focused event in Scotland in 2014”.
Last week I returned to my old school, Kirkcaldy High, for the first time since leaving as a sixth year pupil back in 1991. My colleague Laura and I had been invited by Audrey Diamond, Kirkcaldy High’s Principal Teacher of Guidance to take part in their 5th year student’s induction day. It was a fantastic event aimed at inspiring the 15 and 16 year olds to make the most of their year ahead by focussing on a number of key themes including enterprise, employability and creating opportunities for their own success and development.
