Driving across the new Queensferry Crossing on route to Dundee (sunshine capital of Scotland) to attend the Scottish Engineering district meeting, I am reminded how staggering an engineering feat the new bridge really is. Looking to the right I see the iconic Rail Bridge and I realise how entwined Scotland and engineering have been over the past 100 plus years, not to mention the feeling of national pride at how awesome Scotland really is!
Last Friday I attended the RBS Food and Drink Conference in Edinburgh, an all-day event focussed on one of Scotland’s core industry sectors. With representatives from entrepreneurial start-ups, seeking their first investors to more established SMEs, household names and global leaders, it was fantastic to hear about their organisations, how their businesses were facing the current market challenges and planning for the future.
Following their latest quarterly report, Scottish Engineering has held their regular regional meetings to discuss updates and forecasts from engineering employers across Scotland. As active members of the group, our consultants attend a number of these meetings each quarter, providing insight into staffing trends, skills in demand and sharing feedback from our engineering client base.
